Discover Texas Field Trips Funding
“We want to take our students on a Discover Texas Field Trip but we just don’t have the funds.” We hear this a lot from educators that want to take their classrooms on the road to supplement classroom learning with educational field trips, but the funding just isn’t there. As educators at Education in Action, we believe that all students should have the opportunity to experience Texas and through experiential learning programs such as our Discover Texas Field Trips. For this reason, we are always on the lookout for funding opportunities for schools to take part in these programs. Here are some opportunities that may be an option for your school. You could apply for the first opportunity today!
Student Youth Travel Association Youth Foundation Road Scholarships of up to $5,000
The SYTA Youth Foundation (SYF) established the Road Scholarship program in 2002 to award funds to youth who are unable to afford the cost of student group trips. Based on the belief that travel is essential for a complete education, it is SYF's goal to make a positive difference, through travel, in the young lives of our global citizens.
Road Scholarship nominations must be submitted by an educator or designated school official. The nominator creates a profile and completes a fairly short online application. Up to $5,000 may be awarded for a group application. The 2018 Fall Road Scholarship Application is now OPEN! The application is available now through November 16, 2018. All fall nomination results will be sent out the week of December 10, 2018. Their next four scholarship application windows are currently posted so you could even make plans to apply for next school year’s field trip.

Title I Funding
If you are at a Title I School, there may be Title I funding available to help pay for your students to go on a Discover Texas Field Trip. Allocation of Title I funding is determined by each school district but, in general, Title I funds may be used to pay for field trip registration and transportation. Contact your district’s Title I coordinator to see if this is an option for your school field trip.
Target stores award field trip grants to K-12 schools nationwide. Each grant is valued at $700. Grant applications are accepted annually August 1st – October 1st.
Sponsorships
Sponsorships may be an option to fund your field trip. Perhaps your school has a connection with a local business that may sponsor your Discover Texas Field Trip that could benefit from the tax-deductible donation. Your school district may have an education foundation that could provide funds. Education in Action has sponsorship template letters to help you should you choose to request sponsorships from these or other organizations.
Of course, there is always traditional fundraising including product sales, activities, and restaurant spirit nights. Lists of companies that support fundraising in these ways are available at https://educationinaction.org/field-trip-fundraising.
If you want to take your students on a Discover Texas Field Trip, but the funds just aren’t there, we hope these opportunities and ideas help make your goal a reality! We’d love to take your classroom on the road on a Discover Texas Field Trip. For more information, visit our Field Trip Fundraising page or call 817-562-4957, x 2.
