Youth Facilitators

Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council members have the unique opportunity to return on camps as Youth Facilitators. As Youth Facilitators, these young leaders serve as mentors to the campers, assist the adult Facilitators, and assist camp Directors behind the scenes. We are excited to welcome the following students as Youth Facilitators this summer!

Kynleigh Adcock

Kynleigh just completed 8th grade at Morris Upchurch Middle School in Queen City ISD and is a 1st year Alumni Council member.

I want to be a Youth Facilitator so that I can meet new people and make lasting friendships. I also want to help younger students become good leaders. I also know that, as I prepare for college, the skills that I have and will learn at camp will help me with college admissions and in my college career.

I want to be a Youth Facilitator because I love working with kids and expanding my leadership skills. I have been a part of this program for the past four years and every time I’ve completed a camp, it has left me wanting more.

Dhanvi Bethalem

Dhanvi just completed 10th grade at Lone Star High School in Frisco ISD and is a 2nd year Alumni Council member.

When I was a camper during the summer of my 8th grade year, I enjoyed the camp more than I had expected going into it. From there, I chose to be a Youth Facilitator the next summer. I helped the kids enjoy their time at the camp and I received a strong sense of accomplishment and joy. Being able to help these kids learn and build upon their leadership skills led to me wanting to experience it over and over again. That is whyI am serving as a Youth Facilitator once again.

I have had the amazing opportunity to be a Youth Facilitator twice now, and it has been on of the most amazing experiences of my life. Each time I learned amazing skills from leadership to community building and more. Being a Youth Facilitator has truly given me a beautiful opportunity to build life-long connections.

My reasoning for wanting to be a youth facilitator is something that started my first year of being apart of the Lone Star Leadership Academy. The things I learned my first year have stuck with me throughout my education career like building relationships, teamwork and a persistent pursuit of knowledge. These and many other positive experiences are the reason I come back every year so that I can continue to be a positive role model, and help younger people have the same positive experiences I did.

When I attended the camps, I always looked up to the Youth Facilitators and I was able to connect and learn from them. I want to be able to provide that experience for the younger kids and be a part of the Academy experience for them.

Having been involved in Lone Star Leadership for five years, I've gained valuable mentorship translating into strong leadership skills. Now, as a third-year member of the Alumni Council, my goal is to contribute those skills to students eager to learn, especially through community projects in Houston and Galveston. As a Youth Facilitator, I aim to support Education in Action's mission and inspire future leaders.

When I went to the Lone Star Leadership Academy camp for the very first time I was unsure about the camp but the longer I stayed the more comfortable I became and the more I enjoyed it. I remember I made a lot of new friends and I loved talking to everyone there. I was inspired by by the maturity and leadership the Youth Facilitators showed; at one point I thought they were Facilitators. Now, I want to help someone have a good experience and to become that type of role model.

I want to become a Youth Facilitator because of the positive experience I had previously. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The Lone Star Leadership Academy offers students opportunities to check out cool places in Texas’ three big cities with other awesome students. I enjoy hanging out with kids and adults, and I think I can inspire and motivate them to be their best. Being a Youth Facilitator at this camp will be fun and a chance for me to learn and grow, too. Ryder just completed 11th grade at Dripping Springs High School in Dripping Springs ISD and is a 3rd year Alumni Council member.

The initial reason I wanted to become a Youth Facilitator was because of my friend. She was a Youth Facilitator one year and seemed to have a lot of fun. What was even cooler were the little things like getting her food first and allowed to have soda; which to a 13-year-old was everything. Looking back, however, the biggest reason for wanting to become a Youth Facilitator is the positive impact you have on the campers and being a valuable member of the team.
