Youth Facilitator FAQs
What are the future benefits of being a Youth Facilitator?
- Return as a paid member in the role of Assistant Director or Youth Facilitator Advisor after you turn 21.
- Receive a Letter of Recommendation to include on your college resume.
What are a Youth Facilitator's responsibilities at camp?
- Help student campers with their luggage at registration and pick-up.
- Rotate Leadership Groups set up by the Director each day.
- Sit with a different group of students at each meal and on the bus and interact with them.
- Please do NOT "buddy up" with other Youth Facilitators. You may socialize with them at the Youth Facilitator's nightly meetings.
- Help with breakfast setup and handing out meals at restaurants.
- Conduct the discussion and group activity for each morning Leadership Group meeting.
- Help with the evening meeting by handing out t-shirts for the following day and leading the large group activity.
- Help control the attention of students during career speakers, on the bus, and during tours.
- Come prepared to speak about your LSLA Alumni Council and camp experience/s and your service project at Friday’s Farewell Program.

What purpose does a Youth Facilitator serve at camp?
- Provide leadership and mentoring to student campers
- BE a role model for all
- Model the daily leadership skills
- Help with any homesick or shy students and encourage their self-confidence
What are the benefits of being a Youth Facilitator?
- Earn 42 volunteer service hours
Receive a reference letter from Education in Action referencing your time with the camps, on the Alumni Council, and as a Youth Facilitator

When can I go on the Lone Star Leadership Academy camps as a Youth Facilitator?
- After you have completed each Lone Star Leadership Academy you are eligible to attend as a camper
- Upon the successful completion of the Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council (You must complete the Alumni Council each year you want to register as a Youth Facilitator.)
- Students may apply to become Youth Facilitators once they meet the grade requirement of being one year ahead of student campers in the program they wish to facilitate.
What are the requirements for being a Youth Facilitator?
- Register for and successfully complete membership in the Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council for the current year
- Maintain an 85 or higher grade-point average
- Apply, submit an educator reference letter, and pay the program tuition before the deadline
